All you have to do is look at the date on the What to Wear Calendar, and you’ll find a unique outfit formula to wear that day that is appropriate for the time of year!

My Journey to Finding Cute Outfits As a Mom
I’m actually really bad at knowing how to look stylish everyday.
Back in high school, my go to outfit was a big T-shirt and baggy jeans or basketball shorts. It was comfy, but I definitely wasn’t a stylish girl!
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve gotten a little better at dressing nice but it’s always been a struggle.
I’ve wasted a lot of time and money wandering around clothing stores buying yet another V-neck or sweater, hoping that this new shirt would be the one that finally solved my problem of feeling frumpy. Shockingly, it never worked.

Now that I’m a stay at home mom, the struggle is even harder because I don’t necessarily have a good reason to get dressed in the morning. If I stay in my sweats all day, who cares?? No one is there to see me except my kids.
Even when I did get dressed in the morning, I would usually just change into fresh workout clothes or, at best, a pair of jeans and a V-neck sweater. I didn’t really like any of my clothes – they all felt stale. My stay at home mom outfits definitely didn’t qualify as cute.
IMPORTANT CAVEAT: If you have a brand new baby, you totally get a pass on all of this stuff. You SHOULD stay in your PJs and lay around in bed all day.
You need to rest and take care of that baby.
So just pin this for later and come back to it when your baby is sleeping for more than 30 minutes at a time, mmmkay? In fact, head over here for some tips on how to survive after you have a baby.
Why It’s Important to Dress Your Best Everyday as a Stay at Home Mom
Besides having great routines in place, it turns out that getting dressed in the morning and making the effort to look stylish every day is really important for a stay at home mom’s mindset and mental health.
If you stay in your PJs all day, you’re going to be sluggish and not feel very motivated to get anything done. You’ll feel out of sorts and generally not at your best.
At the end of the day you’ll find yourself wondering where the time went and why you worked so hard and somehow have nothing to show for it. This was definitely true for me.
Not only that, but putting in the effort to put on a cute outfit can give your self-esteem a huge boost. I think it’s really hard to feel good about yourself when you’re still in the same clothes you slept in at 1 PM.
But getting up and putting on clothes you love in the morning? That can totally change the way you perceive yourself – in a good way.
Putting in the effort to look stylish every day makes the rest of your day less stressful:
- If you realize you need to run an errand that you didn’t anticipate in the middle of the day, all you have to do is hop in the car and go. No need to worry about getting showered and figuring out what to wear because you’ve already done it.
- If someone drops by unexpectedly, you can confidently answer the door because you know you look great.
- You’ll never get be embarrassed if you get caught by a neighbor when you run out to check the mail.
- You’ll look and feel like a better mom.
Getting dressed in the morning isn’t going to solve all of your problems for you automatically, but it is a big step in the right direction.
But What Am I Supposed to Wear Everyday to Look Cute?
At this point, hopefully you’re fully convinced that getting dressed in a cute mom outfit every day is worthwhile. But you need clothes that you love putting on the in the morning if you want to be motivated to get dressed every day.
That’s where Frump Fighters comes in.
You wouldn’t believe it from all the cute outfits she designs, but Corina (the founder of Frump Fighters) used to struggle with frumpiness too! She’s totally overcome all of that, though, and now she uses her mom fashion blog to help other moms learn how to wear stylish clothes every day.
Corina’s amazing capsule wardrobe plan for moms gives you step by step instructions on how to transform your wardrobe. By the time you’ve worked through her plan, you’ll love every single piece in your mom capsule wardrobe and you’ll know how to mix and match your clothes to create nearly 400 cute mom outfits.

How To Style the Clothes You Already Have
After you download the printable shopping guide, go through your closet and see what you can check off from the stay at home mom capsule plan. You might be surprised to find that you already have a lot of the items on the list to get started!
(Although if you’re as fashion-challenged as I am that may not be true – I didn’t even own a plain white T-shirt for layering!)
But that’s what I love about the this capsule wardrobe plan: Corina doesn’t just tell you to go out and buy a bunch of new clothes that you can’t afford, she teaches you how to style clothes that you already have.

Use the list to work through your closet and then decide what you need to actually go out and buy. When you purchase new items, Corina suggests sticking to just a few colors that work well together so that you can mix and match all of the pieces in your wardrobe easily.
She has a couple of sample color palettes that you can use, or you can do a little more research and find out what colors work best for you.
How To Look Chic On a Budget
When you’re ready to go shopping, there are lots of different ways to find the pieces you need to look chic while staying within your budget:
Save Money At Thrift Stores
This is by far the most frugal and environmentally friendly option! I absolutely love shopping at thrift stores, but now that I have children it’s much more difficult for me to actually go out shopping.
The last time I went shopping with my girls, they kept climbing underneath the changing room door and running out while I was attempting to try on clothes.
But sometimes I can still sneak away to do some shopping in the evenings or on the weekend when my husband is home to take care of them which is always a nice treat.
My favorite brick and mortar thrift stores are Goodwill, Plato’s Closet, and Clothes Mentor!
Shop Thrift Stores Online
If you want to buy used but still want the convenience of online shopping there are a couple of options. ThredUp is an online store that has tons of gently used products available for purchase. Poshmark is a great place to look too!
Pro Tip: Stores like Plato’s Closet and ThredUp will give you money for your clothes! So as you find items to get rid of, stop by your local Plato’s Closet or send them into ThredUp for cash! This is a great way to get a little extra money to spend on your new clothes. Just make sure all of your clothes are in good condition before you try to sell them.
Another great way to make a little money off of your clothes is to take photos of them and then put them up for sale on the Facebook Marketplace. I’ve sold a lot of things this way! I find that it works best to bundles your clothes and sell them as a lot rather than individually.

Shopping In-store
I’m pretty sure most of us are aware that you can walk into a retailer and buy clothes, right? It’s not always the most budget-friendly option, but you can always look for coupons!
The advantage of shopping in-store is that you can try it on immediately and decide if you like the way it fits you before you buy. No need to worry about the hassle of returns. It’s just not as easy or convenient to make it to the store, especially if you don’t live in a big city or if you have kids.
How to Save Money When You Shop Online
Shopping for new clothes online is super fun and convenient! It can still be a little expensive, but you can find some great deals on occasion! Especially if you use a cashback service like Rakuten. I’ve seen them offer as much as 20 percent cash back at some retailers on Black Friday.
I also love to use Honey when I shop online. If I find something that I like, but it’s a little out of my price range, I simply add it to my Honey Droplist and it sends me an email if it goes on sale! Honey will also scour the web for coupons for you so you don’t have to search for them yourself!
Use The Mom Capsule Wardrobe Plan Shopping List
If you want to make things easy on yourself and just buy the exact items that Corina uses as examples in the capsule wardrobe plan, you can! After you get access to the wardrobe capsule plan for stay at home moms, she’ll also send you a list of shopping links to all of the items in the capsule.
It’s pretty handy if you don’t feel like hunting around on your own. Plus, every purchase you make through her links supports her blog so she can continue helping us learn how to look stylish every day!

Get Ready to Wear Cute Mom Outfits Every Day!
Once you have a few items from the mom capsule wardrobe, you can start putting outfits together right away! In the year-round wardrobe plan, there are almost 400 outfit ideas put together for you. There are dressy and casual outfits for every season.
You can also search the outfits by clothing item. For example, I recently bought a feminine vest, which is one of the items in the capsule wardrobe plan.
I’ve never worn vests before, so I wasn’t sure how to style it. So I just searched for all of the outfits in the capsule plan that included the vest, and there were lots of different ideas for me to choose from.
I don’t usually follow the outfit exactly as shown, but it is amazing for inspiration! Sometimes I’ll pick something that I like about an outfit in the capsule plan, and then create my own outfit based on that!
For me, the best thing about following the capsule wardrobe plan from my favorite mom fashion blog is that I walk into the store with a plan:
- I’m not wandering around aimlessly grabbing things that I think look vaguely cute in the moment.
- I know exactly what I’m looking for when I go shopping and what colors I need to look for.
- I don’t waste money on random shirts that I’ll wear a couple of times and then get tired of.
- I confidently buy the things on my shopping list, knowing that I’ll be able to create tons of new outfits with each piece that I buy. It’s amazing!
I love that I’m working my way out of my fashion rut. My wardrobe is fun and interesting to me now. I don’t wear my pajamas or work out clothes during the day anymore because I love my new outfits and it’s so much fun to pick out a new one each morning.
My days are so much more productive now that I get dressed in real clothes each day and I love that I’m not embarrassed to answer the door.
I get compliments on what I wear from my friends when I go to play dates or see them at church. I feel a lot better about my appearance than I did before my wardrobe makeover and I feel so much more confident.
